It's actually really good that they're not ignoring the elephant in the room. Yuuri has felt like a burden to Victor the whole time, and Victor needs to tell him that he isn't.

Totally with you on that. I feel like the show's been building up to this conversation for awhile.

One of the things I like best about YoI is how it handles Yuri's anxiety- as something that can't be fixed overnight even if he's learning how to deal with it. He's come a long way since episode 1 where one performance completely shattered his self confidence for almost a year (and I'm proud of him for saying that no matter how any of them do, they were still amazing to make it into the top 6 in the first place), but he's definitely not over the issues that caused that break down in the first place.

I feel like having him and Victor talk things out is one of the best things that could happen for them right now. Victor's a very private person- he keeps his thoughts to himself, which is why he's been so open to misinterpretation from both Yuri and the viewers. We've been able to get into his head and hear just how much Yuri means to him and how empty his professional life had gotten, but Yuri hasn't, and he's the one who needs to hear it, so that his anxiety doesn't have to fill in the blanks for him. So far it seems like he's convinced that Victor only likes him because of his potential as a skater, and if he hits his peak and can't surprise him as well as others like Yurio or Chris could, that's the end of it, which isn't true.

If they can finally clear the air, I'm sure it will help Yuri out in his free program (and be good for them in the long run ofc- communication's important in a relationship!). What better way to help Yuri give a performance that expresses his growth as a skater than to learn just how much that growth affected the person he idolizes, who he thought he'd been tying down up till now?

Not sure if he'll win though. Or if he'll keep skating for another season. As long as he's content with what happens, and it's not his anxiety making the decisions for him, I'll be satisfied

Other stuff I liked from this episode:

-Victor's jump along with Yuri. Cutest part of the episode

- Yurio's skating. Kid did good, even if I don't really want him to win this time around

- Phichit. Shame he didn't do better- I'd love to see him win if Yuri doesn't get gold   ;_;

- Cristophe not tmi'ing after his performance :')

- JJ's performance anxiety- relatable for him, hilarious with that whole league of supervillain skaters, and a good mirror to the pressure Yuri's been under both times he's skated at the GPF

Kinda wasn't surprised at what happened with JJ, I was actually expecting it to happen at some point. Stuff like this happens in real life all the time. There's definitely nothing wrong with confidence and thinking that you're gonna win, especially for someone with JJ's talent, but he was wayyy too overconfident, to the point where it was kind of annoying, and it was only a matter of time where reality would hit him. That said, I felt pretty bad for him, but the fact that he could smile aftewards was nice to see, really shows great character.

I'm so happy for Yurio though ahhh my little flower is blossoming so much making friends and breaking records, makes me so happy. Ugh but Yuri's face after his performance broke my heart, like you could only imagine how hard he was being on himself, but what's different now is that he knows he could have done better. Like it's not so much his confidence that was the issue there, at least that's the way I saw it. I'm really disappointed that he told Victor to end things after getting a ring and asking him to be his coach until he retires. Ugh, it makes sense why he would say that but at the same time it doesn't and it's frustrating. Hopefully Victor smacks some sense into that boy, otherwise idk what I'm gonna do if the final episode doesn't end well. Speaking of the last episode, I would love for a second season to happen, this anime felt like it was too short!! T.T

I didn't care much for JJ but him flubbing was both disappointing and infuriating, albeit unsurprising. We all know that in sports anime if you're not the protagonist you probably are doomed to lose amirite? :')

I'm rooting for Yurio for first place next episode and maybe Otabek or Yuuri for silver. Though I won't be surprised if the writers decide to make Yuuri break world record for FS just to make him win :') because, again, protagonist amirite

It makes 0 sense for JJ to choke in the end given his personality

Obviously making it as an excuse to give Yuri ( the Russian one) 1st place

Sigh...And JJ was the only character that I actually ended up liking

Seems they are finally bothering to animate the crowd.

Well it seems Russian Yuri is going to win unless Yuri does something crazy. I am kind of happy JJ got owned since he was kind of a dick. I mean I could see him being sudden shit isn't good writing but the character is such a buttwipe. I don't feel bad for him. I think the framing was wrong. he looks defeated and hurt but in the mist he is like, "No I can do this I am awesome!" And then he sucks like shit but poses and goes JJ style and people cheer him on. The emotions I feel are mixed.

I don't get why people are freaking over this. That ending is the perfect development, or the only possible one, if Yuuri truly loves Victor. We can see through this whole ep how much Victor wants to get back to the ice, it's the place where he shines, where he belongs to, his PASSION has be found again after meeting Yuuri. That's the meaning of the whole anime. And Yuuri by always watching Victor closely of course realises that, and he decides to let him go, back to the ice again! and not selfishly keeping him by his side.
That's how you love someone, people.

There are a lot of other great things about this ep that I could tell the creators have put so much effort in thinking about it, but for now I just want to talk about Yuuri's decision. For me this is the perfect episode, even if it breaks my heart badly and I don't know how I'm going to live through next week

My main question is...what the hell happened to Seung Gil???????
The borderline-incest Crispy siblings keep popping up, I guess for comic relief? Emil was with them also. Minami appeared as well with Yuri's family which was adorable.
Yet the absence of Seung Gil, despite competing in the same competition as Michele, is a bit puzzling. Especially since he was such a reserved character, I wanted to see his reactions to the short program.

Yurio finally finding his agape (including grandpa, Victor, Yuuri and Otabek!). It's a bit very unrealistic that he'd set up a new world record at the age of 15 imo, yet I'm not an expert when it comes to figure skating. It was a bit too much.

At the real Grand Prix Final this past weekend in Marseilles, the seventeen-year-old American skater Nathan Chen topped the technical scores in the free skate with a score just over 113. While he missed both quads in the short program, he landed four of them in the free skate. With that as context, Yurio's 117+ didn't seem entirely implausible.

Chen won the silver, by the way. The gold went to Japanese skater Yuzuru Hanyu. It was his fourth consecutive gold at the GPF, an all-time record for the men.

http://olympics.nbcsports.com/2016/12/10/yuzuru-hanyu-nathan-chen-grand-prix-final/

I am aware of what has happened and the sheer technical wholeness Chen was with his beautifully landed quads, especially compared to the other competitors that day, except maybe Shoma. I am still in denial though that such young skaters can a) perform artistically well enough to set up a new world record and b) it'd happen under the premise of "having his hands up during the jumps making it so much more difficult". I'm not gonna say that it's completely impossible (Evgenia Medvedeva breaking the women's world record is probably a good example), however, the way they presented it in the anime came off a bit ridiculous and just feels more like a plot device than anything. Well, in the end it's still a work of fiction and they can do whatever they want to I suppose.

Ugh this episode destroyed me. UGH WHY IS THIS ANIME SO GOOD. My background on my computer is Victor hugging Yuri and I like can't even bare to look at it it's so sad. This is what needed to happen. The hardest part of the whole episode was how removed Victor was from Yuri, it was soul-crushing. The whole show is about this beautiful, deep, innocent, ever-growing relationship between Yuri and Victor as coach and skater, and how they grow independently because of that relationship. Seeing Yuri smash his head into Victor's and lick his lips in the most eros way possible, and watching Victor tackle him on the ice are the moments that steal your heart in this show. They were there, we had the rings and Victor doing the quadruple flip with Yuri, but Victor was so focused on the ice. He clearly misses it. It SUCKKKSSS but the only way for this show to proceed, at least the way I see it, is for them to end their coach-student relationship. And then the next season would be them competing against each other. At least that's what I hope for. Seeing Yuri independent of Victor skating after everything would be so interesting, and who his new coach would be?!?! So curious. Just the idea of them becoming competitors opens up so much for the show. This one is special. The creators really put so much love into it, I've never seen anything like it. Totally has my heart.

AND UMM YURIO. So proud. Gotta love him. Even though he pisses me off sometimes, like in the last episode when he called Victor's ring garbage WOW I was so mad. But we all know what he's really like under that hoodie. Even though I'm rooting for Yuri with all my heart I was so moved by Yurio's performance. He finally mastered his agape. The juxtaposition is so perfect between his personality on and off the ice, Yuri too, I love it. And JJ omg hate him but that whole business made me cry. Just like everyone else is saying, really great reflection and relation to Yuri and because the viewer is so in touch with Yuri and his experiences and emotions it was really easy to feel that empathy for JJ and gave him that relatability he really needed. It may seem unnatural or plot devicey, but I don't think it was unrealistic at all, he really was far too overconfident. It seemed to me they did it in a very realistic way, like he seemed confident still but those underlying fears were getting to him and coming out visibly in his jumps. Made me feel for him and like him actually, it was really touching with the crowd and everything and he was a really good sport. This show hardcore knows what it's doing. UGHHHH NEXT WEEK WHYYYYYY.

Didn't mean for this post to be so long haha this show does crazy things to me.

I know I'm being awful but I was really happy to see JJ's failure, he deserved that for being so narcissistic. Of course he will probably change that attitude of his at some point but as for now he's just irritating.

I wonder what Victor's expression during Yurio's performance meant. Is he aware that Yurio will surpass him someday and that's the source of his sadness?

First of all: Yuuri and Victor are adorable as ever, kissing their rings and stuff. The flashback where Yuuri says "Don't you want to see see it, Victor?" Ah that scene hit me right in the kokoro, they're just too cute >////<

YURIO?! BRO! What the fuck? You're insane! I'm not sure whether I like Yurio or not. He's obviously a very talented skater but his attitude is still the worst, I don't like it. He works so hard tho and he totally deserved to break Victor's world record. He's following into his footsteps! He's still young and a meanie, I don't want to see him win now. Second place would be perfect.

JJ got nerfed, lol. Watching his performance was painful but I was also kinda glad because I didn't want to see both Yuuri and Phichit end up so low. I'm sorry JJ, you'll get your chance another time! You're lucky with such an amazing fiancée and fans!!

Ah, the drama I was expecting for ep 10 decides to show up in the last episode. Alright, bring it on! I'm hoping for a happy ending where Yuuri expresses his true feelings and love for Victor while skating his free program and set a crazy world record as well and win gold (and get married). I need to see a perfect "Yuri on Ice" performance before the show ends. Please land that quadruple flip and make your hubby even more proud <3

I don't know what to expect honestly, my expectations have been wrong all the fricking time and that's why I love this show so much! It just keeps surprising me over and over and I'm ready for a crazy good ending!

Good episode.

I expected this but it did feel a little rushed, I guess they can't help it when they had to fit 6 performances into one episode.

Yuri's performances looks repetitive since we see it all the time, I mean we know he's doing something different but it's just that it looks the same as always. XD

Phitchit was awesome, The guy really loves skating. He deserved more points. :( Loved that little flashback with him and Yuri.

Holy Shit! Yurio on top, World Record as well. Pretty awesome for him.

Totally did not like what happened with JJ, Feels like a very convenient way for him to lose since he was so OP.
They say it's similar to Yuri from the last year, but the thing is Yuri was always low on confidence, JJ is like his exact opposite. He's brimming with confidence and self-esteem. It's feels totally unnatural for him to fall victim to pressure considering how his personality has been throughout the show. I mean it's possible but it just doesn't sit right.
Also the entire audience cheering and singing his theme was awesome.

Finale next week, I suppose it will feel a little rushed but I'm looking forward to it. Let's see who wins.

Kudos to Yurio, that was insane! The ending was kind of expected since Yuri always felt like he burdened Victor. I am glad this will be addressed in the next episode, so I hope they communicate and Victor tells him how he truly feels. I completely understand how he feels though. I am glad that this show slightly touches upon issues such as shitty self-esteem and anxiety.
Can't wait for the programs in the next episode as well as some Victor/Yuri cuteness and for god's sake s2 please

You guys do know that this is how skating works in real life right? Competitors can't just skate a new routine out of nowhere, they choose one for the whole season and stick with it and make subtle changes and perfect it, if they can. Or if they can do a flawless performance and get the planned score, it's already good enough.
In Yuuri's case this time he obviously couldn't get what he wanted due to anxiety and etc. just look at him break down.
Sad to break it to you that this is not like other high school sports anime with insane power-up and major changes after every match

There is no age restriction. It's just younger people are generally better at it, more flexible, more stamina, and so on. So it's generally sport for younger ppl.

Seeing so many ppl losing their shit at the last scene is making me laugh so hard.
Yuuri prob mean with "lets end this" to end their relationship as coach/student. I think this episode showed us well, that Victor, after finding inspiration again, yearns for the ice rink. So Yuuri prob didn't want to be selfish and "keep" him.

Anyway, I call bs for JJ failing this hard, at least give him the last jump.

Victor is a horrible coach, so I'll be happy if Yuri decides to end this coaching relationship, regardless of his position at the GPF.
Victor is awesome as a person, and is sweet as a lover, but horrible as a coach. I feel that Yuri has gone this far because Victor is WITH him, not because Victor coaches him. Victor designed his programs, yes, but Victor also designed Yurio's SP, so that's not enough to be considered good coaching. Until now, all that I see is Victor trying to support Yuri on an emotional level, but often that fails too (episode 9 where Victor had to leave Yuri's side because of Makkachin, and now episode 11 where Yuri is obviously affected by Victor's expectation). Victor's presence clearly has an emotional impact on Yuri, and this impact is not always a good one (given how sensitive of a person Yuri is).
If Yuri is not retiring, he seriously needs another coach. Someone who is able to support him without messing his feelings. Yuri clearly is too dependable on Victor and that is no good (parallel with Mickey and Sala's relationship here). And I think it is truly a good thing that he realizes it in this episode.
I hope that they will have a good solid conversation on episode 12.

STOP!! IT'S JJ STYLE!!

Felt sorry for JJ, the overwhelming pressure he put on himself finally got to him. These things can hit you on a subconscious level so no matter how confident you can appear on the outside, the pressure builds inside. Hope he can make up for it in the 2nd half.

I'm more interesting to see what happens to him now than Yuri.

So many emotions in this episode.

I feel so sorry for JJ, his pressure got the best of him :( Sure he can be a total egotistical jerk but he doesn't deserve peer pressure on this important event of his career. Even Yuri said it.

Oh my gosh, Yurio, Yuri, Pichit and Otabeck's performances were fantastic. I especially adore Otabeck's the most because of his lack of emotions ^^

I smiled at the Yurio and Otabeck's friendship (yeah, I ship it)

I hope Yuri and Victor will skate together in the final episode. That would be the best way to end such an amazing anime.

I can't believe there's only one last episode left. I really enjoyed everyone's performances. I haven't seen Yuri this anxious since this is the Grand Prix Finals and the pressure is on with the competition. Phichit, Otabek, and Chris did very well with flawless performances so I think they'll be something else entirely. I was really impressed with Yurio as he has come a long way from where he used to be. I do enjoy his "Agape" theme as it feels very melancholic and relaxing. He really made it to the top.

But what struck me was JJ's performances. I didn't expect him to mess up that badly so I kind of felt sorry for him. I hope he'll be able to recover from it soon. I like how his fans were cheering him on and it was very emotional how they were supporting him to the end. ;;

That post-credits scene made me wonder about what he meant about after the finals that Yuri wants to finish it all. I'm not sure what to expect at this point but I'm sure that I want Yuri Katsuki to win the gold for sure. I'm so rooting for you, homeboy! :)

Well, I'm sad that it's only one final episode. :( I must say I have enjoyed this series very much though apart from the yaoi and stuff. It's a final showdown and I hope all of the competitors will do their best on the ice!

Isn't funny that in real life the Four time gold medalist in the Grand Prix Final is the Japanese Skater and not a Russian one.

This episode is literally stressing me out, especially the ending. Too many emotions for me and I can't even take it! One more episode to go and I feel like it's going to be really intense.

But it used to be Russians (Plushenko and Yagudin): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Prix_of_Figure_Skating_Final#Men
